The textbook says, among other things, that:
An Islamic "jihad" is an effort by Muslims to convince "others to take up worthy causes, such as funding medical research," according to a middle school textbook used in California and other states.
The word 'jihad,' mind you, literally means "struggle," and for centuries represented Islam attacking "heretics" and "infidels." Apologists for Islamofacists claim that today is has a more spiritual context, that it means a war against sin and evil, but Osama Bin Laden himself has invoked the term numerous times when referring to the "Western crusaders" that he wants all of Islam to destroy.
This is a religious term that caused the death of 3000 Americans on 9/11, and now we are misrepresenting it to kids in order to give them a rosy, sterile and politically correct portrait of Islam?
Now, on top of this flagrant misrepresentation of the term 'jihad,' where are all the crazed 'separation of church and state' people at now? You would think this would be their bread and butter, a textbook forcing religious beliefs down the throats of children, but alas, since those religious beliefs are something other than Christianity, it's all ok in their eyes.
Find a plaque of The Ten Commandments anywhere within 100 yards of a public building and they'll be all over it, though.
